In March, the European Union increased purchases of Russian metals - aluminum, steel and iron. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to European statistics data. Imports of steel and iron from Russia increased 1.7 times compared to February, to 328 million euros. This figure was the highest since May 2023 and allowed Russia to become the second main supplier of these two metals to the EU.
The main European buyers of Russian steel and iron were Belgium (130.5 million euros, an increase of 3.5 times) and Italy (85 million euros, supplies increased by 25 percent). The top five also included Denmark (35.1 million euros), the Czech Republic (23 million euros) and the Netherlands (20 million euros).
The European Union's purchases of aluminum from Russia increased in March compared to the previous month by 29 percent, to 91.4 million euros. The most active imports were increased by Germany (5 times, to 22.4 million euros), Spain (by 69 percent) and Poland (by 21 percent).
